Privacy Policy – YouTube Family Filter
Last updated: April 2026 · Author: Jonasz
Short summary: This extension does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. All data is stored locally on your device only.
1. What data is collected
YouTube Family Filter collects and stores the following data locally on your device:
- YouTube channel handles that you choose to block (e.g.
@channelname)
- Website domains that you choose to block (e.g.
example.com)
- Optional API keys for third-party AI services (Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter) that you voluntarily enter in the Settings panel
No other data is collected. The extension does not track your browsing history, search queries, location, identity, or any other personal information.
2. How data is processed
All data entered into the extension is processed exclusively on your local device. The extension:
- Uses blocked channel and site lists solely to determine whether the current page should be blocked
- Uses your AI API key solely to send a request to the selected AI provider (Mistral, Groq, or OpenRouter) when you explicitly click the AI suggestion button — no automatic requests are made
- Does not analyze, profile, or process your data for any other purpose
3. How data is stored
All data is stored using the browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API, which stores data locally on your device. Specifically:
- Blocked channels and sites are stored in local browser storage
- API keys are stored in local browser storage on your device only
- No data is stored on external servers operated by the extension author
- Data persists until you remove it using the "Wyczyść cache" button or uninstall the extension
4. Data sharing with third parties
YouTube Family Filter does not share your data with any third parties, with one limited exception:
- If you enter an API key and click the AI suggestion button, the list of your currently blocked channels and sites is sent to the AI provider you selected (Mistral, Groq, or OpenRouter) to generate suggestions. This request is made directly from your browser to the provider's API.
- These providers have their own privacy policies: Mistral, Groq, OpenRouter.
- No data is ever sent to the extension author or any other party.
5. Permissions used
- storage — to save your blocked list and settings locally
- host_permissions (api.mistral.ai, api.groq.com, openrouter.ai) — required only to make AI API requests when you explicitly trigger the AI feature
- content_scripts on all URLs — required to detect and block websites you've added to your list
6. Children's privacy
This extension is designed as a parental control tool to protect children online. It does not collect any data from children or adults.
7. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be changed. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
8. Contact
